Classic Cars and Photography: a marriage of two passions.My enthusiasm at an early date for photography – and my simultaneous interest in classic auto design. My profession as a designer with the focus on photo-design and my many years’ experience in visual communications brings together the best of both worlds. My goal: to present the cars through the eyes of the designers and the engineers, and to transpose the thrust of Ralph Lauren’s ideas as expressed in his “Speed, Style & Beauty” into impressive images.I`ve always seen cars as art. Moving art. While friends of mine were going into paintings, I somehow felt that the real beauty of owning a rare and magnificently designed car was the fact that you can use it. You can look at it, enjoy its visual quality, as with a painting, but you can also get inside and drive it – which means both enjoying the drive itself and going somewhere with it. How these cars are put together, the purposefulness with which they created, in every detail – the engine, the mechanics, the outside ornamentation, the designs oft he wheels, the whole spirit – is very, very exciting. And on top of that you have the men who created these cars. Mein Ziel ist es, die Fahrzeuge aus der Sicht der Designer und Ingenieure zu zeigen und die treffend formulierten Gedanken von Ralph Lauren in beeindruckende Bilder umzusetzen.„Für mich waren Automobile immer Kunst, bewegte Kunst. Während meine Freunde sich für Gemälde interessierten, stand für mich beim Besitz eines seltenen und fantastisch gestalteten Autos immer auch die Möglichkeit des Gebrauchs im Vordergrund. Sie können es sich ansehen, seine optischen Eigenschaften in sich aufnehmen, sie können sich aber auch hineinsetzen und es fahren – also die Fahrt als solche genießen, und auch die Tatsache, dass es sie irgendwohin bringt. Ich finde die Art und Weise, wie diese Fahrzeuge gebaut sind, die Zweckmäßigkeit, mit der sie entstanden sind, sehr spannend – der Motor, die Technik, der Zierrat, das Design der Räder, die ganze Aura. Und dann sind da noch die Männer, die diese Maschinen entworfen haben, die Herren Porsche, Bugatti, Ferrari, und ihre Lebensläufe, ihr Erbe, ihre faszinierenden Geschichten, die Hintergründe, die sie zum Bau und zum Fahren dieser Autos veranlasst haben.
